Thanks tiredmum and lots of luck with your appeal, everything crossed for you. :)

I am just putting my appeal letter together and have all my evidence re academic ability and extenuating circumstances but I am finding it hard to 'match' my DS with the school. The school is a specialist science and language school and I would really appreciate it if someone could suggest a way I can put down on paper DS's love of science now that they are no longer doing SATS.

I hope you understand what I mean - it's been a long day have been up since 3.30 as couldn't sleep with all the panic of the appeal going round and round in my head!!!!!

Matching the school

Post by dejavu »

Hi Twinkles

Best of luck with your appeal. Have you read my feedback on appeals? One of our two requested schools specialised in science, and the other in languages. Did your DC attend any science clubs? If so, can the person who ran them write you a letter confirming it and how interested they were in science? Or have belonged to any language club? Have you been on holiday abroad lots so that DC could enjoy and practice languages? Or loves to go to the science museums in London (school trips etc)?

Sorry, probably not that much help - but I know how you feel - if I can be of any help, just pm me.
many thanks

On the letter you can briefly explain his interest in science. Do you have a teacher who could write a letter saying he shows an interest in class in science or he excels at it?
When you get the chance to present your case you can verbally put accross how interested he is in science, and go into more detail :)

Hi Twinkles

Although my appeal is different to yours, I am using the science specialism that the school we are appealing for has as part of my case. As our school no longer do SATS in science, it is difficult to prove his actual ability in the subject.

What I have done is to get letters from teachers at the school to confirm that he has a strong interest in science and an excellent understanding about what he is learning. I also have a letter confirming that he has attended the school's after school club for science as well.

I can't tell you whether or not this would help during appeal, as I haven't had my appeal yet, but I think that this is your best chance if you want to use the specialism as part of your case.

Wishing you the best of luck for your appeal hearing, and hope it all goes well :)

Thanks frustrated.

Unfortunately I can't get any more letters/support from the school. I have a headteachers letter and a letter from his classteacher which isn't overly helpful and have been told there is no more evidence they can give.

Hope your appeal goes well, everything crossed for you.
