please can anyone help? my child missed her 11 plus by 3 points and after the exam complained that she wasted time having to keep blowing her nose because the window next to her was open. Then today after receiving her results a parent mentioned to me that the teachers were ewalking round the classroom telling some children to try again on some questions. I mentioned this to her and she said yes this had happened and her friend had said the same. She said this was really unfair because it was a distraction and she had no help so why should anyone else. How do I approach the school about an appeal and is this relevant?

Hi Guest

If you would like to come back to the Forum for help in future, could you please register, so we can keep track of who we are all talking to? (No annoying emails, nasty spam as a consequence, I promise you.)

The difficulty you face is that you only have your child's word for what happened (plus that of a friend). The nose-blowing incident is really not a basis for an appeal.

If the teachers were walking around the room giving hints and tips to children, then you must, in the first instance, speak to the Head. I suspect that the Head will be very defensive, and that will not help your cause. However, by raising the matter of teachers "helping" some children, you may at least give next year's children a fairer opportunity.

In the meantime, please do use this Forum to look at all the most positive grounds for appeal - academic performance is the key to a successful appeal, and there is a wealth of information available here.

Please come back to us if you have any questions.
