I understand that, however, weak your inital appeal documents you do have the opportunity to develop your case by providing further written reports and information to support your case before the appeal meeting.

You can then use this information to present your case. This is what I will have to do in my DS's case as the issue of prejudice was raised by the School after we put in our inital case.

However, if you want to force the issues with the School I would suggest contacting the information commissioners office:

https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx

My understanding is that the school have 40 working days to respond to a Data Protection Request and 20 days to respond to a Freedom of Information Request.

I would explain the situation to them - one of their roles is to help if you asked an organsiation that holds information about you and they’ve not provided it.

As I understand it the School hold the information and in the absence of the HM the Deputy Head or other official should release it.

There is, however, a strong possibilty that this would alienate the school and not keep them 'on side'!

Hi there. Thanks for that PJ.

The teacher covering for the normal teacher has come up trumps and has provided a letter in support of our appeal application.

Now all I have to do is to really justify why only this school will do.

Have read through other threads in forum and quite a lot of advice to find the schools specialism and see if that matches your childs skills.

This is a specialist school in maths and science. Our local comp allocated school is also a science specialist school and so not sure this argument will be that strong. Also DS failed the maths part of the exam so not sure I can claim this is is strong area!!!!

School very strong in art and this is an area he excells at. Does anyone know whether they would consider this enough of a reason as it not really an academic subject.

Also this is the only grammar within 50 miles so the only one we can get to but I guess this is the same for lots of people in this area.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

It depends whether you have evidence that DS is strong at, or genuinely interested in, science, and whether GCSE results confirm that the grammar school does even better at science than the comprehensive. I wonder whether the comprehensive does 3 separate sciences at GCSE?

Worth mentioning.

True, but it's still a very valid reason!

So much depends on how strong a case the school puts forward to resist further admissions, and how your case compares with the other appellants' cases.

well why will only this school do? If your child will struggle to keep up - and some of the children are brilliant at maths - wouldn't it be better for their confidence to be one of the brightest elsewhere?

Have you asked the school where you are on the waiting list? It is not unusual for one or two children to drop out the first term. They dislike the travelling or their friends go elsewhere. Even if you lose the appeal if you keep in touch with the school they may take your child from the waiting list.

As for art one of the teachers recently left. Hopefully the replacement will also get good results.

Editing this because I learnt recently that the school has, in recent years, not had places for some children who passed the entrance exam. Think you need to be prepared to go elsewhere.
