11+ score advice & other questions

Post by MADMUM123 »

Hi,

I am new to this forum and need some advice. My DS's results have just been recieved from Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Boys and we have discovered he has missed the pass mark by 3 marks his score was:
VR:100
NVR:106

TOTAL:206/209

We are completely confused of this absurd marking system because the marking should be out of how many questions there were in the examination. So if we wanted to find out how much he got in the test unstandardised what would his score be initially, however we have heard they mark by age and give extra marks to students who are younger which we find is also absurd because students who are 11 and 10 learn the exact topics in the national curriculum. My DS was born on december 1999 so are his marks increased or decreased and by how many.So could you please shed some light on this confusing system of marking.

Kind Regards

Hi

If these were curriculum tests, I think you might be right, but reasoning tests are not part of the national curriculum.

This thread might help:

Only the admission authority can tell you what the raw marks were. You have a right to this information under the Data Protection Act (but the authority is entitled to make a charge of £10 - they may or may not implement this). I must advise you, though, that raw marks are unlikely to be of any relevance at an appeal.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply Etienne I completely understand what you mean but what I am trying to say is how could somebody get extra marks just because they may be born in november 1999 for example, when they learn the same topics which is NVR, VR ,Maths and English and even in school they learn the same thing it is not like one is in year 4 and the other year 5, plus it is not much of a difference between these ages.
Thanks for the reply.

Kind regards

standardised scores are explained here

and there have also been quite a few discussions recently which may help understand why scores are standardised

this is the most recent

Hi,

Thanks for the reply,I think I will go down the appeal route because of the fact he has worked really hard under medical and finacial circumstances and has done a variety of papers such as Nfer/GL, Bond assessment, AE, MW, Learning together, Ips, Susan Daughtrey, Peter Robson and 11+ Tutors C-D and has remarkably got more than 95% in nearly all of them and 100% the second round and has answered all the questions in the exam and has said he understood 99% of the questions and people on the forum have said they have missed 15 questions which would be 45% off 40 questions and have still got in so this is why i think i am going to appeal. He has also been going to a 11+ club and has come top out of 11 children non-stop.Could anyone give me tips on what evidence I should gve to make an appeal, such as 11+ club, circumstances and medical history.
Your advice will mean alot to me.
