Waiting List Movement

I wonder if you can help me. I know people have posted re waiting lists but I was looking for some clarification before I go completely mad.

Our DS took the 11+ test and missed the pass mark by 1 point and he has so far been allocated his 3rd choice school and we are planning an appeal to another of his choices. He only missed by 1 mark, has 5a's and 5b's in school test results and have further evidence and extenuating circumstances. I rang up the AA at the time and was told he was in top 10 on the waiting list, which we thought would give him a good chance as other children took up places at other schools he could possibly get a place on appeal. I contacted the AA again today and was told that he had moved down 10 places becuase other people were now appealing for that school, although it was not on thier original form (it was our 2nd choice). This is from the admission policy re waiting list.

Waiting lists
Places available up to the planned admission number will be offered subject to waiting list order.
Vacancies will then be offered in this way.

Any child being offered their second or subsequent selective preference will be added to the waiting list
of their higher selective preference in accordance with their score and, if appropriate, the order set by
the Committee of Reference provided that the scores are within the range of those considered for that
school.

Waiting lists are held until the end of the Autumn Term for the incoming Year 7.
Provided that the school has been named (and a higher preference has not been offered already) offers
after the first round will be made from the waiting list.

Is this correct that a person who did not even enter the school on their original CAF can now select to and will be put higher in preference to those who had selected it ??

You should find details of how the waiting list will be run in your LEA admissions booklet. LEA's have different procedures at this stage.

I'm afraid it is possible to go down on the waiting list as new applicants are added.
