I do understand.

No way of knowing what your chances of success are, but you certainly have grounds for appealing.

The very best of luck - hope you get a sympathetic panel.

Many thanks Etienne and Looking For Help, and in fact everyone who has advised or sent good wishes.

I am going to, as always, give it my all, and pray for a positive outcome, and if we are still unsuccessful, I can go away knowing that we did everything within our power and it wasn't to be.

I will let you know how the appeal went afterwards.

Hi, received the relevant appeal paperwork today, at it states that currently year 7 is 5 over PAN of 175, making it 180.

They haven't included any information as to how many classes there are and how many children there are in each class.

Am I entitled to ask for this information?

Indeed you are.
1.31 ........ Admission authorities must give appellants appropriate guidance and information before the hearing to enable them to prepare their case for appeal ..... and, having regard to the Data Protection Act 1998 and Freedom of Information Act 2000, must respond to any reasonable requests for information about the school or the admissions process that the appellant may think they need to help them with this preparation .....

Many thanks once again Etienne.

Is this something I can ask the school direct for, or do I have to ask via the Appeals Clerk?

You're very welcome.

I suggest the first step should be a polite request to whoever deals with admissions at the school. Just say that you would be "grateful for this information to help prepare for an appeal".

They ought to be helpful. If not, let us know and we can advise on what to do next.

Many thanks, and sorry one last question, am I entitled to know how previous years ie before 2010 overscription information?

Reason for wanting this, is to casually comment that the school has regulary gone over PAN and has still maintained such high standards and results.

Good or bad idea?

Very good idea. :)

In addition to the breakdown for year 8 in September, ask for the expected number on roll for each of years 9-11.

I'm adding your question to the Q&As.

Fab! Will let you know how I get on.

The school is literally two minutes from my house, so I will 'pop in' and ask.

That's if they haven't identified me on their CCTV and lock the gates!
