Re: 11+ appeal interview with clerks- Berkshire/slough
Ok thanks for that.
Ill just tell you the scenario, he got 106, 99 in VR, 113 in NVR. There extenuating circcumstances, break up of marriage and parents health issues and was on antiviral potent (father). He has been predicted 5A for Maths and 5B for english and science. He has a good leter of refernce, the headteacher said he was very dissapointed he passed mock 11 + exams which were standardised. He is on the G&T register. He has end of year certificated for ouststanding work in maths, and a few awards throughout the year. He is also a school prefect. We are planning to submit all our evidence 2 week in advance, a good idea?
We have his excercise books and a mock SAT paper, is that a good idea, would they accept that.
I dont want to come across the wrong way as if im showing off or anything, they are just the facts. I no i have a decent case to put forward, but i would like the opinion from the people on this forum, this is my first time and you all are relatively experinced.
What else can you think that i should get ready?

I think the answer to all the questions you ask is in the threads that Sally-Anne posted for you. Perhaps if you read them and there remains something you don't understand you could post about that?
mad?

We will always give a personal response, provided we have the background!Major123 wrote:Alright i have read that. i just would have liked a more personal response.
What has happened here is that you have created two separate threads on the Appeals section, and therefore I assumed that you were a new poster. (My apologies, but we are very busy!)
I will merge your threads, and I would ask you to stick to one thread from now on. This is now your "personal appeal file", and it means that we can find all the information in one place.

Re: 106 My sons appeal (Berks.)
You are firstly appealing against non-qualification.You really need to show that the '99' in VR is well below what was expected. If there are books that show excellent results in English, with levels consistently in the 5's then you should definitely take them with you. The results of school work also show that the NVR should have been higher given his 5a maths prediction. Is he now working at these levels, have you got a letter from the school detailing this.
The basis of your appeal is that he is of the required academic standard and that the mitigating circumstances affected him so badly that he underperformed on the day.
You also need to prove that your child should also be given a place at the school, in the Consortium there will be children who scored above 111 but below the 'offer' score who will also not achieve a place. So you are really trying to prove that your child should have reached an aggregate score of 118 - 120. An appeal panel will also be considering why you feel your child should attend that particular school i.e. if the school has a specialism that suits your child and it is not offered at another school.
Unfortunately only a few appeals are granted each year by the Consortium.

Dear Major123 - you are constantly being referred to the Q&As because many of your questions (and, more importantly, some you may not have thought about yet) are answered there.
For example:

We are planning to submit all our evidence 2 week in advance, a good idea? -Good routine academic work, in the child’s own handwriting, that has not been specially selected (e.g. routine exercise books for Maths, English and Science), full of complimentary remarks by the teacher about achievement (e.g. “level 5 standard”). See also Note 1 ...... Photocopies of school work might be discouraged, although it depends on local practice (the panel might not even be interested in school work!). The problem with photocopies is: (1) it might look as if you are carefully selecting specific pages while concealing others, and (2) photocopies are not always clear, and the teacher’s comments (which are what ought to matter), if made in red, may be less obvious.

SATs papers -

is it the clerk who makes the final decision?? -..... if there’s a supportive comment on the paper from the teacher (e.g. “level 5, test conditions, well done!”), it could be useful to show some examples that your child has already been working at level 5.

Only panel members can take part in the decision making.
