my daughter is on waiting list for grammar having scored just under the pass mark. Waiting list is moving slowly and they have just started offering places to girls with the same score as my daughter. As of this year distance criteria has been introduced,we are further away and have yet to be offered a place. If the waiting list was to stop and only some girls with the same score were offered a place and not all would it be worth appealing as the boys school still offers all boys on the same score without using distance as a criteria.

A school must follow its own published admissions criteria, and these should include what happens on the waiting list. If the school published its decision to offer places to people on the waiting list in score order, using distance from the school as a tie-breaker, then this is what they must do. A school does not have to have regard to what other schools may do when they set their criteria so what the boys' school does is irrelevant (assuming it is a separate school!).
