Kent appeal

OK, those of you who've been here a while will know I've been here before. However, this appeal is different .
DD2 was working at a 4a in Maths and a 5c in English in May last year.
The week after she sat the Kent Test she scored almost perfect marks in her SATS
She's a July baby
The HT is very supportive
We're in catchment for both the grammars we're appealing to and have an older sibling at one of them.
She's in the 'level 6' maths and English group ( they take them out and push them a bit harder I think )

Sadly DD2 flunked all three papers in a spectacular fashion. We have no extenuating circumstances forthe actual day. Both my father and my husband's father died and she became quite anxious and i think this affected her ability to cope with stress. School have since identified this and she's been having 1 to 1 bereavement sessions.

Now on paper I think she sounds like a strong case but I don't want to get blase . The HT is on board with preparing the appeal

Any extra tips?

So far, so good. :)
Any extra tips?
If there's anything else, it'll be in the Q&As:

Hi there

We're in almost exactly the same position except that although DD passed her VR & NVR she spectacularly bombed her maths (14 points out). We got our 2nd choice of non GS but to be honest we always felt that the 2nd choice would be better for her & she's very happy with it as it turns out.

We went for our parents eve last night to be told that she is working at 4a across the board at the moment, hopefully making a 5 all subjects except maths (which is a bit worrying as you can imagine).

For my part,I'm starting to feel that it may be an uphill struggle for us but I'm really trying hard not to let negativity over take me (difficult when you've given up wine for Lent  ).

We're filling out the form (only applying to 1 GS) tonight & I'm going to drop it off tomorrow & see what happens :D . We're keeping it all a complete secret from our DD,as far as she's concerned,we are 100% behind the non GS.

Actually,we're not telling ANYONE what we're doing (except my Mum),less pressure all round I think. Then I'm just going to try & take each day as it comes if I can.

All this said,I will be much more relaxed about everything once I can get the wine open

Keep in touch,we can hold hands :D

Hi Seen

We are really pleased with our offer, it's the best non selective in the area, she's pleased and has 3 good friends going there.
DD1 is at a grammar and I think DD2 feels she needs to be there too. HT is pushing us to appeal too.

DD1 passed NVR and VR well and was just under with the maths paper. We appealed. She's now in year 9 and achieving 8c in maths, so it was definitely worth the trauma of the appeal.

If I'm honest, the actual appeal panel was the easy bit.....its the awful build up to it that's so stressful. The support I Igot on here last time really kept me sane.....didn't do my waistline or liver much good though

Up to 4.30pm this evening I felt I knew what I was doing - ie. accepting non-GS and appealing for GS. Ds also missed 11+ by a few points on maths, passed on the other two.

However, we received a letter form non-GS saying that DS2 had been put into the grammar class in non-GS. DS2 has decided to go there now, as more friends are going there rather than GS. Up to then, he wanted to appeal to GS. Also, earlier, I'd asked ht for a letter to support my appeal was waiting for DS who was at an afterschool club.

Mentally I've prepared myself for the GS appeal challenge. I'm still tempted to submit the form, si this door isn;t closed yet. Chidlren can be fickle, next week him maybe friendlier with the gs boys, so want to go there instead (subject ot winnign an ppeal).

Hi! Sorry you're back in the 'appeals' forum but good to see that DD1 is doing well. It's so good to be proved right, isn't it?!

Sometimes failing all, and not only 'just' can (along with good evidence) be explained to a panel. You already know evidence is what is needed here, and along with strong HT support there is every chance of success.

Good luck :D

Thankyou T12ACY .

PC. DD2 and I discussed this at length yesterday. Paperwork for the appeals will go in, we'll prepare. Appeal won't be until May at the earliest so that gives us lots of time to decide. I cannot fault the school we have accepted, and I think she'll be happy there.......but there's the big "what if"
