Nobody should go into an appeal expecting to win - because most appeals aren't going to succeed.
I wouldn't withdraw, though. Speak from the heart, put your points to the panel, and see what happens. Your case deserves to be heard.

As far as FCO is concerned, you challenge it simply by asking some questions. If you scroll down, you will find a number of suggestions here:
