Advice on appeal for having cutoff but oversubscription

DS has the cutoff marks for Grammar but no offer due to over-subscription on distance being too far. Any advises on chances of appeal success and what kind of evidences would be helpful.

Which area / school ? How do they offer, is it score or distance?

offer based on score, which he has(has cut off for this year) but few on same score so distance applied secondarily
