I am in the process of appealing and I know you cannot give a definate but wondered if you could rate our chances.

My daughter got 115 and 116, she was predicted in the rankings 13th out of 26 that were ranked 60 were entered, as far as I am aware the top 12 passed and about 6 passed below her. My daughter was given a 2 (121-130) she is predicted in SATs with 5b's in English and Science and a 5c in Maths, she is also in the top 25% for maths and english.

I have circumstances which was I was heavily pregnant and the last 2 months were particulalry difficult and resulted in various hospital admissions I gave birth on the 7th Oct (in the middle of the 2 exams) My daughters work did detriate during this time and we were called in twice during Sept as the school were so worried, she was also very subdued and is usually bubbly, which they picked up on. Do yout hink these are good enough circumstances. I must admit my daughter found things difficult during this time and I was unable to be with her prior to the 2nd exam (the night before).

Hope you can help :(

Looks all right in the context of 18/60 qualifying - not that I'm suggesting that the curriculum standard correlates with the 11+.

Lowish scores, but looks like a very good case overall. The average success rate for 116 is around 29%. I would certainly put your chances at more than 50%.

Thank You.

The Headmaster has included it on his summary regarding the hospital, as he saw me in there!! His wife was in there at the same time. As well as the fact we were called in due to her work standard dropping.

The Headmasters summary was extremely supportive and positive so I guess it depends on what happens on the day.

It's really helpful that the head will confirm school work was affected. All too often it seems to be just two particular days in October were the problem ..............

If I were on the panel, I'd be interested to see your daughter's year 5 report (before your health became an issue).

Regards

Thanks for your reply, 50% is better than 29!

In year 5 she did two tests I am not sure what they mean, but they have been included on the Heads summary

NFER Year 5 Verbal Reasoning score 131
QCA Optional SATs Reading Comprehension Year 5 score 130

Will this help in anyway???

I can include the year 5 report

Whoa! Steady on there Etienne - aren't you getting a bit excited? I've never had you down as the g ambling type!

Hi Caz34red

Joking apart, it all sounds great so far - your mitigating circumstances are very clear and strong, and that will help a great deal.

Keep digging away for any more good academic evidence, and don't forget that that is the most important part of the Appeal.

Good luck!

Hi, Sally-Anne

There are few 100% certainties in appeals, alas.

Exceptionally, I do recall offering to eat my best hat last year if someone didn't make it - and that you were extremely disappointed when I didn't have to ........

Just wanted to say Thanks to Etienne and Sally-Anne for a fantastic forum, I am so glad I found this before rather than after!! It has really helped, my husband has not been so pleased as he thinks I am having an affair :o :D

I have had a good look at relevant subjects and it has helped, I feel now that I am not the only one. I did not pass back in 1981 but it did not hold me back, I left with more qualifications (O levels and A levels) than my sister who did pass, and I was a Head Girl and a fairly talented athlete, so the reason for appealing is not for the sake of it as in some instances it works to go the other way. I feel my daughter has a far better potential than I did but I do feel she needs to be challenged to really bring out the best in her, she certainly has more confidence and I would do anything I could to help her develop her ablity.

I hope you don't mind Etienne I would like to send you a pm just do not want to go into too much detail here, but would like to ask your advice.

Many Thanks

Caz34red

Needed to sign in first and forgot so ignore the change of name on the left!!
