Missed by 2 marks! - selection review
My daughter got 119 in Bucks 11+. Her head teacher supports her selection review application. She got 2:2 from the head. Following is the bullet points we are thinking of mentioning on the form. She is also predicted 111-120 end of year6
• Attained 119 in the 11+
• Reading and spelling above age
• Top sets in Maths and English throughout primary education
• Level 3 for KS1 SATS
• Consistently achieved high scores in VR and NVR tests attained at school. 130-131 End of Year5
• Strong head teacher support
• Bilingual
My husband and I have been having some marital issues over the summer. We have tried our upmost not to affect the children. We believe this could be the factor of the shortfall. We haven't mentioned this to school as it is a very personal matter. Is there any point mentioning this on the form for the review or would they think we are not sincere as there is no hard evidence? Would the academic evidence be enough without going into personal matters?
Thank you so much for your help. This is an amazing site for parents that going through very difficult time!

Welcome to Appeals!
Did it affect school work, bearing in mind the academic evidence looks strong?
Might be difficult to argue that it affected the 11+ but nothing else?
Good!• Attained 119 in the 11+
Ideally it would be 2 years above chronological age.• Reading and spelling above age
Fine - if it's a school that performs reasonably well.• Top sets in Maths and English throughout primary education
Good!• Level 3 for KS1 SATS
Good!• Consistently achieved high scores in VR and NVR tests attained at school. 130-131 End of Year5
Fine, if most of the '1' and '2' recommendations qualified.• Strong head teacher support
Can she write the other language as well as she speaks it? Does she write with grammatical accuracy?• Bilingual
They do like to see evidence, or for the head to confirm the school was aware at the time. However, you could argue that it was a very personal matter which you didn't want to share. Is there any point mentioning this on the form for the review or would they think we are not sincere as there is no hard evidence?

With a score of 119 I suspect extenuating circumstances won't matter much. Can't offer any absolute guarantees though!Would the academic evidence be enough without going into personal matters?
Much appreciated!Thank you so much for your help. This is an amazing site for parents that going through very difficult time!

Maybe we can argue that they just got back to school so not enough time see the affect in her school work??Etienne wrote:Welcome to Appeals!

Possibly - if "over the summer" means "during the summer holidays"?Maybe we can argue that they just got back to school so not enough time see the affect in her school work??
Best to be precise with the dates.
