Rsinsinwar - please don't use specialism as a point in your appeal as these ended many years ago. The only point that mght be relevant if there are specific clubs at one school or somesuch.

Am Ofsted 'outstanding' from 2008 is, with respect, worthless as this judgement did not look at the progress the students make as the key judgement.

You need to use the evidence from his school about levels, reading age etc and evidence why the school you want best fits him without reference to Ofsted or specialisms.

Although the specialisms where done with years ago, the school still excels in those subjects. Take languages, for example, all students must take two languages GCSEs, one of which must be either Mandarin or Japanese. Wilmington teaches I think 3 European languages?
The other thing is that Rsinsinwar's son was already preparing for the IB? This is a huge difference between Dartford Grammar and Wilmington. If you believe in the IB and if your son has already been following the middle years program or precursor to it, then I would definitely emphasise that.

Now, with regards to clubs, and your child being so interested in technical things, I am afraid that Wilmington is the place for him. They are very strong in design and technology as they were previously a technical college. You will have to find out about the clubs, etc, but when I researched it, Wilmington was better in this respect. My son is such a techie and wanted to do Design and Technology for GCSE, however, the class was axed at the last minute due to lack of resources. He was very disappointed.

I'm puzzled again. Rsinsinwar, you are appealing for Dartford yet right at the start you mentioned "matching specialisms". You already have a place at Wilmingon which has a matching specialism.

I suppose the IB might trump that - the only problem being that an awful lot can change over a given cohort's time at a school. I'm assuming that people may well have appealed for places at Dartford on t grounds of wanting access to particular A level courses in five years' time, right up until just before the school decided to announce the change to IB?

I see that your letter of appeal, requesting a critique by this morning, came through to us at 11.40 last night.

It may be useful for everyone to remember that this forum is not staffed 24/7 by paid employees but by volunteers who give their time freely in the name of public service. In fact if something like this happened in the commercial world I imagine nothing at all would happen until well after Easter when an email would be sent stating that 106 pages is 105 pages too long.

Still, I expect that for volunteers such as Etienne, when posters express thoughtful gratitude for the advice given, it all becomes worthwhile.

Thank you all for all the interesting and well meaning comments. The thing is after evaluating all options , Dartford is our highermatching school than Wilmington only plus being DT. Do all your views and points are valid, but our sequence of choice was equally reflected in out CAF form.

Salsa, thanks for sharing your experience and son’s current hard work, wish him luck and I am sure you are managing his enjoyment to balance the hard work. You are much experienced for me to suggest you here :) but these are very expected differences between the two schools.

Please see the Q&As:

Is it a mistake to keep the reasons to 1 page only?

Is it ok to almost have same content on 2 different appeals?

The academic evidence, and perhaps any extenuating circumstances, might be the same - but reasons for wanting a place should be very specific to the school being applied for.

Will I be able to considerably modify the narrative/reasons etc maybe in my speech?
You are certainly free to add to your case (for example, by sending in additional evidence a week or two before the hearing), but there probably ought to be some sort of an explanation if you are suddenly introducing a significant new reason which wasn't significant enough to merit a mention in your original submission. (It is, of course, quite possible for circumstances to change between March and the hearing date.)

My apologies Ettienne for the formatting issue (I rarely use this laptop ) and thank you for the response. That was an unreasonable request :( but I think I just worded it wrongly, I should have not mentioned expectation.
Today we did the ed psychologist assessment and indeed it brought some new issues that could help the case.

Let me know if I could check with you about that at ease....

Thx a ton
