Hi parents
I am completely clueless and need help for my VI child who has nystagmus and needs font 36 as per her hospital. Need your help for
1. Where do I get Test material and enlarged books for preparation
2. Who is the right contact to confirm what access arrangements will be provided as per her sight? I read somewhere that children with nystagmus are exempted from non verbal reasoning and are tested differently.
please bombard me with any help you can provide. Thanks

I can't help, I'm afraid, but you need to get this moved to the appropriate section. You have posted in "Appeals".

Firstly I might be inclined to visit schools you are interested in and ask to speak to the SENCO to get an idea of how the schools in question would be able to support your child should they get a place at the school.

I copied this from the CGP website
Do you publish books in large print or Braille?
We're sorry but we don't currently have any books available in large print or Braille. However, we have given permission to the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) to transcribe our publications. They've already transcribed some - you can search their library here http://librarycatalogue.rnib.org.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. We can also grant permission for individuals to make their own enlargements of our material in individual cases. If you'd be interested in this, please drop us a line and we'll look into it for you.

I wonder if their online editions of books would be useful?

I have some experience of a child with VI and I found the Royal Society for Blind Children very helpful when I called them - telephone number 020 3198 0225.

Also the society or organisation which specialises in your particular "area" can provide useful info - we found. The Macular Society very helpful. They provided information that I was able to pass onto the school.

Do speak to the SENCO at the schools you are interested in, my DS needed enlarged papers and various other things for public exams and the school had to contact the examining boards.

Do pm me and I will try and help.

Welcome to the forum! :)
2. Who is the right contact to confirm what access arrangements will be provided
To try and answer your second question, you will need to apply to whoever is organising the local 11+.
This might be the individual grammar school, or a consortium of local grammar schools, or the Local Authority.

If you tell us which area you are in, or post in the relevant regional forum on here, someone should be able to advise you.

Have you spoken to the SENCO at her current school?
