I have a general question about appeals (not 11+ related).

We live in area with many outstanding schools, but unfortunately we are not in catchment.

There are two schools near us (actually they are the closest to us) where my son can (and definitely will if will not get place in grammar) get a place. But I don't like them.

I've hear some rumours that some children got places in school they wanted through appeal process.

I try to understand, what ground for appeal could be. There is no medical or any other reasons, I just don't like academic results and local reputation of these schools.

(assuming admission process was correct)

Thank you.

Unfortunately you cannot appeal "against" a school; you have to appeal "for" a school, so if it is just the fact you don't fancy the others, you don't have a lot of appeal fodder. Have a look at the many and vast appeal threads and they may help you. Reality is, the vast majority of children do not score highly enough to get a GS place so there are bright children in all schools and with support, they will likely do well wherever they go.

As KCG points out, you are in effect appealing for the school you want, rather than against the school you don't want, so it helps your case if you have good reasons for wanting or needing a place at the school being appealed for.
