Good morning

I have received the latest CAT results from the school. The tests were taken on the 26/09/2018

Do you think they are strong enough to support a selection review. As the school doesn't have KS2, school exam results from Year 5 and CATs are the only academic evidence we have? They were tested a week after the Bucks 11+! Many thanks

Verbal SAS 118
Quantative SAS 126
NVR SAS 133
Spatial SAS 118

Mean SAS 124

I understand the CATs have a max mark of 141?

regards

Sorry all

forgot to ask as well.

The Bucks CC website mentions remarking and that any paperwork relating to that will be submitted as part of any selection review panel.

does this suggest it would be disadvantage to have the paper remarked?

thanks

There's little point asking for a re-mark. The papers are marked by a machine and any ambiguity in a child's answer will see the machine refer the paper to a human marker. I'm not aware of any papers ever having had their marks changed as a result of a re-mark.

Ideally the CATs would be all greater than 121 - these are standardised hence the '141' is the highest not an 'out of' mark.

How strongly is the Head supporting?

thanks re CATs and Re mark

I am seeing the head on Friday - earliest he can make it. Unfortunately its a prep school out of county and we live in maidenhead, so there were only a handful of children who took the 11+. I think this may his first Selection review request!

I shall come once I know on friday

Are you near enough to the school you want to get allocated a place should the review be successful?

No - it's just standard practice to make all correspondence to do with your case available to a review or appeal panel.

As anotherdad says, a re-mark is very, very unlikely to come up with a different result.

Dear Etienne, another dad

I had a brief chat with the headmaster today, with a full review tomorrow.

Its likely that the academic evidence will show steady progress over the years with a rapid increase in achievement since Year 5.

is it going to weaken our chances if achievements scores are not at the above expectation levels from Year 1, but they improved rapidly since?
