Hi,
We received our daughter's results this weekend and she was unsuccessful. However, I wanted to ask whether Schools can ever be persuaded to show any flexibility? She passed the English and Verbal Reasoning tests by a wide margin (as she was unsuccessful her scores were included in the letter) but failed the Maths test by just one mark (81 against a pass mark of 82).
Is it worth trying to take this up with the School or is it normally a very black and white process?
Any advice would be great.
Thanks

If it is a state school then it is a very black and white process, and you cannot approach the school - and even if you did, would get no joy. However, you still have the right to appeal (and, depending on where you are, might have the opportuity to go to review first). With the appeal you need to be able to show evidence of high academic ability and use this as an example of a blip on the day - again, depending on where you are, being that close to the pass mark may really help (some schools/areas it is more straightforward to win appeals than others - although no appeal is easy.)

If it is a private school there may be some wiggle room, as they are a law unto themselves.

Thanks for the advice. It is a state school so it sounds like we might not have any joy.

It's almost worse when you see how close she got to passing. :(

It might be helpful to know which area you are in. You should have been told what the process is for an appeal. Usually you need to name the school on your CAF and then get rejected in March.

Have you looked at the sticky? There is a wealth of information there.
