Don't Panic

If anyone reading this is in the position that their son or daughter has failed the 11 Plus then I have the clear message that it is not the end of days and not to panic.
I successfully navigated my son through a Kent appeal last year and would offer you some key points from thsi experience:
1. The appeal is your chance to present your case - the panel will listen to you, won't judge you and will give you the time you need to make your points.
2. If possible get your primary school on your side. If the exam marks were just outside the pass mark then compile as much evidence as possible that shows how your child is performing within the top 25 % and also dispays the key skill sets tested for by those exams where the marks were not at the pass level.
3. Bear in mind that the panel cannot consider reasons why the alternative schools are not suitable so stick to the pure academic evidence or extenuating circumstances.
4. Don't be put off by the Council's representative as they will be reading a set statement which is simple states that your child did not pass and so is not being offered a place. Its nothing personal!
5. Try to present evidence for anything you state in the appeal.
6. f the appeal is not successful then do remember there is a chance to transfer later.
I know it is so stressful and most of us know that some of the alternative schools being offered are just not what our children need. Don't loose hope, try to be positive and please feel free to message me if I can be of any help.
