You will probably have to ask whoever organised your 11+ (e.g. the LA or the school) whether this is still possible.

Note that they are under no obligation to do a re-mark.

Here you could try a Subject Access Request (SAR).
If the school or the LA have a copy of the raw marks in their possession, you could serve a Subject Access Request on them.

I have emailed info@cem.org but no reply, not even an acknowledgement. Is there a process?

Although you probably didn't specify that this was a SAR, they should treat it as such - but they have one calendar month in which to reply.

There are a limited number of grounds on which a SAR could be refused, such as commercial confidentiality.

It is aimed at GCSE/A Levels but I think you could argue it also applies to 11+ entrance exams. It says "GDPR gives you the right to see information held about you. This means you can request information about you and your exam performance, including:

your mark;
comments written by the examiner; and
minutes of any examination appeals panels.

But it does not give you the right to copies of your answers to exam questions."

The Data Protection Act also specifically exempts exam scripts from Subject Access Requests.

I've a feeling that CEM may have raised issues about raw marks/standardisation and commercial confidentiality in the past, but can't recall the outcome if the ICO was involved.
Or it may be that my memory is playing tricks.

Thank you. It seems so very difficult to get this information on who to contact. They obviously make it this difficult for a reason!

I rang the Grammar School this morning and they were not very helpful. They said I was not entitled to any information and they don't have the paper anyway.

I have tried a third email address for CEM today in the hope that someone replies. Wondering whether to just give up with it all.

Still no reply to any of my emails a week later, I wonder if they are going into a black hole?!

We need to fill in the CAF, we will list the grammar school he has not qualified for first. There is a text box of up to 3000 characters to add additional information against each preference. Is there any point adding anything in there or will be wasting our time? Presumably we need to present out case at appeal not in this box, but I wonder what that box is really for?

Thank you. In case it is of interest to others, we have finally had a reply from CEMInfoAccess@cem.org as follows:

Thank you for your request to have information released held by CEM, Cambridge Assessment. Your request is being handled as a subject access request under Article 15 of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

In accordance with GDPR, we are only obliged to comply with your request once we have received the necessary information and suitable identification. When we receive this documentation, we will respond to your request within one month.

I would be grateful if you would complete and return the Subject Access Request Form attached, and as stipulated by the Act, provide proof of identification for yourself and your son’s, showing parental responsibility (e.g. copy of a driver’s licence, passport, birth certificate).

CEM does not provide a remark service. We are confident that the marking system is accurate and fair. Scanning work must comply with the following: guarantee of 99.9% reading accuracy and 100%de-duplication of data.
