Advice on Buckinghamshire Selection review / Appeal

Hello Moderators

My son got 119.5 on Buckinghamshire 11 Plus entrance test and he is in SEN register (without ECHP) and diagnosed ICD-10 autism spectrum disorder at the age of 4 with delay in speech and attention deficiency.

We live in the catchment area of one of the Buckinghamshire grammar school and we have received below 'Selection review summary Sheet' from School headteacher.

he did several mock tests before the examinations an on average he was getting 75% and above but unfortunately some circumstantial issues during the Buckinghamshire VR exam caused him stress and obsessive.

Please advice whether we should go ahead with 'Selection review or appeal' ?

Welcome to Appeals! :)

Have you seen the Q&As?
For example:
https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/appea ... aneous#e33" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He did well to get so close to 121, but the relative weakness in reading and writing could be a problem for either a review or an appeal

I note that "he has made good progress and is continuing to do so," which might possibly be an argument for focusing on an appeal next May if he can use the time to improve in reading and writing. However, with no spare places likely to be available by that point in time, you would need strong and specific reasons for needing a place at your preferred grammar school(s).

With regard to the appeal form in March, section C6 explains what you could write:
https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum ... 12&t=57343" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can provide further information up until 10 school days before hearings begin, so your son has until then to reach the required standard in reading and writing.

The panel would probably like to see as a minimum:
  • a letter of support from the headteacher with the latest KS2 predictions (March or April)
  • the most recent school report to parents

Hi

Many thanks for sharing your Educational Psychologist's report on here.
We think there are many members reading this forum who might be interested to see what an EP report for appeal purposes looks like.

We note that you have taken out your son's name, but are concerned there is other information that could help identify him, such as the name of his primary school.
We have therefore removed the report temporarily, will edit it to do more to safeguard your privacy, and then reinstate the post later today.

Hello Etienne

we thought only moderators can view that report... can you please permanently remove the EP report as we dont want to publish that in the forum.

I'll create a new post with necessary information .

Kind regards,
EliasPeter

Hello Etienne,

Thanks for the email. we never had an intention to post the EP's report to view for all as its strictly confidential and intended to send only to you. I was trying to send a private message to you, but it was disabled to contact you via private messaging.

Can you please advice us on this report whether its good to produce in front of the appeal panel and also please remove the report completely from the forum.

Kind regards,
EliasPeter

Sorry but it's not possible to PM me. There's further information available in the "Start here - Essential Reading" thread near the top of the Appeals page.

Yes and no! :?
I'm afraid it's difficult to comment further without referring to the educational psychologist's report.

If you happen to have a question about a particular aspect of the report and choose to post it, I would of course try to answer here, safe in the knowledge that you are happy for that specific point to be discussed.

Moderators acted swiftly to remove the report (intervening without even being asked, such was our concern for your privacy), and we obviously respect your subsequent request that no redacted version should be displayed.
