Hi Langley Mum here.

Just wanted to offer heart felt gratitude for the support this forum has offered.
Special thanks to Etienne(you are fantastic!),Sally-Anne,Catherine and also Wraybury Mum.
We have now had verbal confirmation from Langley Grammar our offer will be in the post today.
I am so glad I never have to go through this again.
We had the preparation for the exam(chose to tutor at home),the exam, the anxious wait for the results, the bitter sweet results, the appeal for non-qualification on one of the tests(un-successful) and the last hope the waiting list!
Finally closure.

This forum is so great just to think aloud on and get great advice or just support from those in the same situation.

So good luck to those still waiting.

Hi Great Mum.
My son had got 117.
Had done all the leg work to get an appeal in the post for today and just so relieved we now don't still have that hanging over us.
Hopefully there will be more offers. If they had to split the next band,
being the 116's,it will be down to distance. How far are you from the school?

Consortium vs Slough

Hi Langley Mum

So pleased to hear your news. It is really disheartening to read about people not getting places, even though we have been lucky. It just shows that the system itself has flaws: different exams in different settings on different days have differing results. The fact that the consortium chose to inflate their scores and leave hundreds of "passers" without a place is the biggest travesty. There no longer is "an 11+" in Berks, it has to be treated as two different entry exams with different qualifying scores. Anyone reading this who has yet to face the tests needs to think long and hard about which schools to choose as 116 is likely to leave you in limbo for Langley and guarantee a place for Herschel. I have yet to find anyone who scored as high in the Slough test as the consortium, again showing a difference in SCORING rather than the ability of the same children sitting the tests.
At the end of the day, they are ALL excellent schools with slight differences in specialisation/location. If you are willing to gamble a grammar place on the outcome of a point or two... you're a braver (wo)man than I!

Best of luck to anyone still waiting :?
