langley appeal failed
Hi all,
got a refusal letter from langley. my daughter will still be in the waiting list with 116 or not? we are still in shock as the impression we had was that the appeal went well. we were told that the panel was impressed with my daughter's predicted sats grades ( all 5as and 5bs). her nvr was 114. vr 115 and maths 119. we were told by the LG rep said that they prefer children with close score. her notebooks were good and letter from headteacher was very supportive. The only one thing that they picked up was a comment from her year 5 teacher that my daughter daydreams. i had problem with this comment but i didn't take it any further with her teacher. seems like that was a mistake on my side. feel abit disappointed with the outcome but it might be for the best as my older one is going to local comprehensive which is not so bad. we decided not to take offer from slough. I believe that she'll do better in our local comp. school. langley was our first choice so we will still consider an offer from LG when and if its made in future.

Hi Greatmum
So sorry to hear about your appeal outcome. Hope your daughter is taking it all well.
I am surprised to hear you are declining the Slough offer. We went to the information evening and were very impressed with the curriculum on offer. They are to start year 7 on the middle years International Baccalaureate in Sept 08.
I wish you and your family the very best for the choice you have made.

Re: langley appeal failed
It probably did go well, but sadly whilst you could well have been quite high up the list, you don't know what was in the other appeals.greatmum wrote:we are still in shock as the impression we had was that the appeal went well. we were told that the panel was impressed with my daughter's predicted sats grades ( all 5as and 5bs).
Sorry to hear that.

Hi Greatmum
Sorry to hear your news - but at least your DD has a good alternative, which you are positive about
Frustrating that her teahcer put down that she daydreams (I don't think, if I were a teacher, that I would put a comment down like that on a childs appeal?!). The reason she propbably daydreams (my daughter does aswell), is because she is 'bored'. I know that my DD complains that she already knows the maths that they are being taught, and says that she almosts falls to sleep in class because she is so borded
All the best to you and your DD, keep up the positive attitude - it will definitely be hugely beneficial to your D.

Thanks for your thoughts. isn't IB going to replace GCSE throughout england? I heard it on radio. My daughter might still get an offer from LG but SG will be quite difficult to manage for us as a family.
Once a grammar school teacher said to me that if your child doesn't get into a GS then you become their teacher and you can achieve the same results. I don't know how true it is!!!!!!! but we have thought it through and Slough is not an option for us.
