That's good!

Could you draw up for the panel a list of the other schools with the number on roll and/or admission number?

Remember that ultimately it's likely to be a balancing exercise - the panel will also have to take into account how strong a case the school puts forward to resist further admissions, and probably how strong a case the other appellants have.

All the same, it's good to know that your case is taking shape (and that you do have a case!).

Thank you for your input Etienne, it's good to know we are on the right track.

We also have the letter coming from current head, strongly supporting DD's academic abiility/suitability and the choice of school, which I know on it's own doesn't stand up to much, but we are hoping all these little points, along with her 'big' point, will do it for her, if she doesn't get an offer off the waiting list in the meantime :)

I will be filling in our appeal forms over the weekend and have a few questions with regards to wording if I may, which I will post here over the weekend too.

Many thanks for everyone's input to date.

Even better if you can get the consultant to mention it!
(Most of them will only state the facts of the medical condition, or at best just add cautiously "Parents think this school would be most suitable .....")
Snowdrop - is it worth not only getting a letter from the consultant but something from the audiologists along the lines of finding hearing more difficult with increased background noise?

Hmmm, I thought the consultant was 'Top Dog' so to speak.

From my (vast - far too many ops for my liking!!) experience of dd's appointments, she has always been tested by him in his consulting rooms.

This last time we went to the hospital and she was tested by an audiologist (at least that's who I think it was, she could have been anyone I suppose????), but the report was then sent to him to analayse.

I shall ask him what he thinks, or if this is possible.

Thanks for that angle Hermy :)

Hi Snowdrops

 yep the consultant is "top dog" .. well I would say that wouldn't I ????? The consultants deal with the anatomy / surgery / neuro etc and interpret the results - he / she'll probably be able to comment on the audiol results and how they might change with background noise.

Hi Snowdrops,

Our LEA has a Specialist Teaching and Learning Service. Their role is to support pupils and teachers in schools with particular difficulties.

Our DD has had a mild/moderate hearing loss throughout primary school. The support teachers were very helpful to us - carrying out assessments pre school and in the classroom and giving advice on things like the effect of background noise on hearing. They even provided us with a letter of support for admission into her primary school which has a hearing impairment unit and therefore had good awareness of hearing impairment.

Does your LEA have something similar from which you could enlist some support?

Do you know Nibbles, until you posted this no-one has suggested anything like it!

She is in such a small school she has been able to cope admirably well and, to be fair, it's only as time has gone on that her hearing has been affected, due to the severity and number of operations, so it's something which we have never had to look into before.

I shall have to look into it, but at this late stage they may not wish to comment as they don't 'know' her.

Thank you very much for adding this information :)

Hi Snowy, so sorry I've only just seen this, and sorry for your bad news.
Just a thought, although the ofsted report that sent the comp into special measures may not mention poor behaviour, I'm pretty sure it would have to make a statement relating to how they cope with children with "special educational needs" (including physical impairments.) There may be something in there you could refer to.
