Hi

For future reference can anyone whose DC sits a scholarship paper for Rugby School (next week), please provide some insight into the written English Language (Composition paper), and the Maths paper.

I have asked both of my children. The scholarship maths section is similar in style to a SATs paper - no surprises that hadn't been covered at school. The composition part asks the child to write something. It could be a story, a report, a type of poem. They aren't given a choice. So, for example, it might be to write an adventure story or a diary extract about a holiday they have been on.

I suppose you may not get much more of a response Optimist, not that many children sit for this exam.
The good thing about entrance to Marshall House is that they don't keep you waiting very long for the results. All being well, people should know this Saturday by letter.
Good luck to anyone awaiting results.

Will ask my daughter when she comes home. Since joining MH dd won a Distinction for her entry to the Rupert Brooke Literary Award competition (Open to all Warwickshire Schools). I would say that imagination and passion in creative writing are what is looked for. If your child will read a book cover to cover, word for word, without stopping; all night if necessary. Then they have what it takes!
