Buses to South Warwickshire Grammars

I have heard parents at my DC's primary complaining about the changes to the school transport to the Grammars. Some have not been able to get bus passes regardless or not whether they are prepared to pay the £220 a term. I am now concerned that although our DC might be lucky enough to get a place at Stratford or Alcester we will not be able to get them there.

Has anybody on this forum got any experience of this?

Yes - the bus that used to start from Kenilworth to Stratford has changed this year, both in route and terms of payment. It's quite complicated, but WCC has taken the contract in house so we now need to deal directly with the council rather than the bus service provider. This has caused some problems, though one youngster I know who didn't have a pass at the start of the term now has one. It also means we can't pay per journey and have to commit to a termly or annual pass - which is more expensive if your DC does lots of after school activities.

I'm happy to give more details via pm if anyone wants to know more but it's probably a bit long winded for a public forum!

If you can use a Stagecoach bus it's probably worth investigating their annual / termly scholar megarider. We paid just over £400 for one which gives any bus service, within a certain area, from September to July and any day of the week and including holidays. Very useful for after school clubs and meeting up with friends

For Stratford Grammar the Stagecoach buses don't go right up to the school gate so the girls have to walk across the fields to get to and from school. This isn't too much of a problem at normal school time when there are crowds doing the trip but we're warned that girls shouldn't walk across the fields on their own, especially after dark. This can be an issue for after school clubs!

The price also varies depending on the 'zones' you want the ticket to cover. Last year it would have cost at least 30% more for DD to have the standard pass than the 'just the school bus' one.

Can I try and resurrect this thread, as I am also very interested in whether public transport goes to Alcester from South East Birmingham or Solihull....but cannot find any info on the web.

Does anyone know if there is transport from the Solihull area? Do any parents lift-share, for example?
