So are there about 465 points altogether? Do you have to get 300 out of 465? That doesn't sound quite so daunting ... but I'm sure it is.

Yes thats right however due to the standardisation function, scores above 410 are rare. Infact there was a post attempting to formulate the relationship between raw scores and STD scores. I think 405 is about 90% rank 1 usually gets close to this score!

A score of 300 is around 68% I think, so you have an idea of the spread..still getting a 68% is quite something given how difficult these tests are...
