Question about the 11+ results

I know that when we get the 11+ results that it will tell me my DDs position of all the East Warwickshire girls and how many others got the same score. I am assuming that the following

If her score was say 300 and she was 1 out of 100 and 4 others got the same score, then a score of 299 be position 6 out of 100 and not position 2 out of 100.

Can anyone advise if I am right or not.

Yes, that's how it was when my DS took the test so I would assume it's the same this year. You'll be told of her rank and the number of children who share it. The next child(ren) will then be ranked your value plus the number of others who share it iyswim! So if your DD ranks 20 and 5 others have scored the same, the next children will rank 25 and so on ...

There's a sticky thread at the top of the Warks forum listing previous years scores and rankings which may (or may not!) help ...

Good luck with the wait - it was the worst bit for me!

Thanks JamesDean. The waiting is hard, the last week seems to have lasted 2 weeks.

The way Warks do the rankings was very informative.

My DS sat Bham and Warks 3 years ago.

The results letter showed total number of children in south and east who took test.

Ours then broke down to his ranking for boys in south, ranking for all children in south and ranking over all children in south and east. It also stated the number of children who had scored the same.

He was 49th for boys in south, so we knew, before 1st march offer day, that he was guaranteed KES, so it took a lot of the worry out of things.

His first choice was KEFW, Bham don't rank, but he was 10 points over the previous 2 years scores, so we were fairly sure he'd be ok, but there was still that doubt.

There are approx 343 places in South, so if your child ranks up to 343 in South, its fairly certain you will have a place. However, all is not lost if over this ranking as there is always movement!

Same again this year, waiting on 2 results! The next 4 weeks is going to feel like 4 years :?

OP is in the East so will need to compare her DD's rank with the PANS for Rugby High and Ashlawn :)

I'm in Rugby in the inner circle for Rugby grammar schools. I know RHS' PAN so once I know my DD position hopefully I'll know either way whether she will get a place there or not. Knowing my luck she'll be in that middle borderline area and the wait will go on until March :(

This next month is going to go so slowly...

It's not quite the same this year as Warks and B/ham is a single exam - Worcs and Solihull candidates within the priority circle can still apply for Warks schools even though they haven't registered with Warks for the exam.(so long as they have registered with B/Ham). So the rank will only be for Warks registered candidates

Bham school is our first choice. Our address is Solihull but we pay council tax to Stratford, so we registered with Warks, but have requested results be shared with Bham.

It will be interesting to see whether the 2 scores are the same!

Spotted this on the warks cc website:

Standardisation is a very common practice when marking 11+ tests and entrance examinations across many local authorities. The effect of standardisation against a child’s specific age is very minimal though, and the main range of points between a child born in September compared to one born the following August, who have both scored the same raw score, is normally an average of between 4 and 7 total standardised total marks. However, this is dependent on the raw marks gained across each component.

Is it really as much as 7 sd marks and surely it's for the total marks as opposed to each subject eg maths/nvr/vr?
And what does that last sentence mean- dependent on scores by the whole cohort per section or by month eg June born dc compared with other June born dc?
And will brum sd scores vary by 4-7 sd marks as well or will they have different computations?
Come on you statisticians out- we need you now! :)
