Choosing School on particular Interest area..
If you are in position where your score can help you choose a Grammar school then Is there a specific school which is more suited?
I know they must have all maintained high standards and it has more to do with a kid's drive but based on this Forum experience is there a common understanding like say -
(just an illustration) -
KES - Dramatics
LSS - Sports
AGS - *** etc..
Will help in choosing when options come up on allotment day..

You will not get a choice on allocations day. You will be allocated a school, based on the choice you have already madeVarsha2017 wrote:If you are in position where your score can help you choose a Grammar school then Is there a specific school which is more suited?

Varsha....are you still not understanding how the application process works?
You have, I hope, already submitted your CAF form? You will be allocated ONE school place on March 1st. The place will be the highest ranked school on your CAF that your child meets the admissions criteria for.
If you do not meet the criteria for any of the schools you have listed, the council will allocate you another school that has places.
One offer. No choices. As you have been told over and over.

I think I have framed my Qs. all wrong. Understand the application process. Actually I should have asked this Qs. before filling CAF as to what this Forum feels for school - which activity oriented are they based on experience?kenyancowgirl wrote:Varsha....are you still not understanding how the application process works?

apologies.
Re: Choosing School on particular Interest area..
But our point is your CAF should already have been submitted? So its no use asking now as either the choice is made on your CAF, or you have missed the deadline to get your application in anyway. Or is your child not taking the 11+ until next year?Varsha2017 wrote:I think I have framed my Qs. all wrong. Understand the application process. Or do you mean, do the various schools available have a reputation for a particular specialism and if so, would this / did this influence you? - ?

Yes very much that's the Qs.ToadMum wrote:Or do you mean, do the various schools available have a reputation for a particular specialism and if so, would this / did this influence you? - ?
Re: Choosing School on particular Interest area..
There are no specialisms now.
Up to ?2010 each school could apply for additional funding by gaining a 'specialism'. In practice it meant little - sometimes it was to build up a weak area but mainly it was a way of getting additional money!
Some schools did use the money for something tangible e.g. a theatre, science labs but often the 'activities' that the money genereated e.g. Primary school outreach no longer happen.

Re: Choosing School on particular Interest area..
In my experience with a DD at SGGS and a DS at AGS both schools cater well across all curriculum and extra curricula activities. Drama at AGS appears very strong and Music and performing ensembles at SGGS are very active. This is from observation as neither of my children do these. They are both sporty instead. Sport at SGGS does appear to peter out from Year 10 or 11 onwards, whereas at AGS competitive team sport appears to carry on fully through Sixth Form. There are obviously different foreign languages on offer at the GS's also.
