To compare with last year:
2017 had 2930 sitting
2018 had 3369 sitting

Last year a score of 240 was ranked 256 overall (girls and boys combined) with7 children assigned this ranking
This year a score of 240 is ranked 301 overall (girls and boys combined) with 23 children assigned this ranking

I can't help but feel the AQS's are going to jump up this year but hope I am wrong

The AQS is a very good guide....there is the occasional wibble (I seem to remember one going up about 5 points about 5 years ago) but generally they go up 1 or 2 marks, regardless of the scores we see reported on here. They do, from memory, generally seem to go up, rather than down though.

A lot of Birmingham parents have no interest in the Warks schools but, traditionally, the Warwickshire rankings/score breakdown gave far more detail than Birmingham, so clued up parents started sharing to try and get that detail - this obviously affects the ranks but not necessairly the desire for a particular school in Warks. And every year there are more applicants, as people get more aware of the GS system - this does not mena that all those extra children are going to be high scorers - a lot of them will be chancers from out of area - giving it a go, maybe trying it as a mock for somewhere they really want to go.

I wonder too whether it includes Birmingham's but I do know one child in Warks scored higher than 271.

A score of 211 last year was at rank 1037 last year compared with 1253 this year ignoring gender and priority circle.

I don't know the data well enough to know what is causing this. To my mind the options would be

1) 'easier' test (Seems unlikely - CEM can't be seen to be a soft touch)
2) More well prepared children (Possible but tutors, online question sets, buying mock papers and going to mock tests are not new techniques)
3) Influence from a cohort of more prepared students - Birmingham scores always seem high. Has there been a shift of where kids take the test?
4) My statistical skills are not great, but it has always seemed odd to me that the average mean of standardised scores is 200 - that would mean that a RHS bound student only needed to score 7 points over the mean -ie is just above average.
The scores we have seen reported on here seem high - we cannot assume they are all high, though. Standardisation irons out perceived easy versus hard tests so that makes no difference to ranks, anyway, although scores may appear differnt year on year. As I have said before - Birmingham used to issue very little detail so lots of Brum parents started sharing with Warks to get more detail - with no intention of every coming here - Warks changed the detail they sent out last year as they realised this but Bham parents still share - Warks have obviously given even less detail this year....! The Eastern Schools have always tradtionally had much lower AQS's than the Southern schools - I remember a year where one of the AQS's was 195, for example and people got in with less than that from the waiting list....

Just spoken to Admissions. Was told the rankings include everyone who took the test from Warks & B'ham. She said you won't be able to tell much from the ranking and you'll get a better indication from the test score, as the rankings will include some that will choose independent schools etc.

Sportsforall shared a link yesterday which is worth taking a look at (freedom of information); in particular take a look at the 11+ preference 2017 entry spreadsheet. It's interesting (and perhaps comforting) to see how quite a few of the top scorers don't put any Warks schools as any of their preferences. Also, it highlights the spread of interest across the grammars in the region.

Hi - My DD scored 207 a score which won't get her where she wanted but for which we are still proud....congratulations to everyone that achieved what they wanted/expected and to all the children that took the test! Without any agenda, below is a summary of scores/ranks that have been kindly provided on this forum for 2017 test (thank you for contributors as the forum is very useful for me last year and this) - struggled to find much info for 2016, but this forum did supply a lot for 2017...... clearly the ALL RANK is most relevant as it is the only figure they have supplied this year... You can interpret as you wish based on the AQS scores and related ranks last year and on the ranks published on Warks website for this year at https://apps.warwickshire.gov.uk/api/do ... CC-699-941" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , obviously everyone is entitled to an opinion and many factors can effect the AQS....but I hope it helps, good luck all.

Thanks Freeman - from that data and this year's ranking, and assuming that a similar proportion of 11+ entrants plump for the same schools as last year, we're looking at a roughly 3 point increase in the AQS across the board. However, as has been said elsewhere, if more Birmingham entrants requested inclusion in Warwickshire's data without any intention of applying to Warwickshire schools, that increase will be smaller.

Roll on 1st March!

I’d figured out a 3 point rise as well, but that was based on what someone had said in another thread i’d read around AGS usually offering down to rank 900 on offers day. The scores in relation to rank 900 have risen by around 3/4 points. My maths is very dodgy but interesting you had come to a similar conclusion! Like you say, this might be impacted by the Birmingham sharing scenario- it’s a waiting game.

not sure if this will help for 2016 entry a score of 243 ranked the following (2847 sat the exam)

all children 186
all boys 106
east boys 16
all east 21

Don't have south rankings but you can work them out
