Dear Friends,
I am asking the below questions for my friend. Her DS has been offered a place in Alcester grammar school(out of catchment area).she is currently residing in Nuneaton, would like to move to Alcester. She is requesting all the lovely team members here to suggest the near by locations with good bus facilities to move in.she also would like to know more about school(teaching, bullying, clubs etc.).Any group names where she can join for Alcester grammar school 2019.Thanks in Advance to each and everyone in the group.Admins are stars as they always have the up to date information.

Assumably your friend did visit AGS and form her own opinions as to why she felt that it was a suitable option for her DS, and subsequently listed it in her CAF? What did she like about it? What were her concerns?

Some people love AGS - it wasn’t for us, because we knew it wouldn’t suit our boys and we felt the distance from where we live was not balanced by any significant gains in the school. The town itself seems nice enough though.

In the meantime, did she do enough homework to work out how her DD is going to get there, if they can't move house within the next 4 and a bit months? It looks a pig of a journey by public transport.

AGS is a great school (my ds is currently in y7 and loving it) but it is after all just a school, and I’m not sure that it’s worth uprooting your whole life for, especially when you haven’t seen the school or are even slightly familiar with the area. When your friend visits the school, they also need to take time researching the town and surrounding villages to see whether a move is even affordable let alone realistic. I assume they have accepted their offer as I believe people are only being given 24hrs this year to make their decisions......

Please do get your friend to look at Beenstalkingforages! advice, OP..... your friend will struggle to get the child to AGS from Nuneaton, unless they drive every day (which is a lot of hours on the road) and I suspect house prices/rental prices in the AGS area will be higher than in Nuneaton... They are very different areas too.

AGS has a very different feel to the other 2 Grammar Schools in South Warwickshire (KES and Shottery) - not least because it is co-ed but also it is much larger with a 6th form that makes up 50% of the school cohort - it is a small site with only a small amount of outside space and the sport is less specialist there - we have friends whose children like Beenstalking's son, who love it and equally know a number of people who did not apply there or pulled their children out.

It is probably not worth uprooting a family/life for a school just because it has Grammar in the title.

Hi - my ds2 is starting AGS in Sept and DS1 is at KES. We live in Welford which is pretty much between the two schools and has a bus to both. It’s a great village. Other villages nearby are Bidford, Long Marston, Haselor there are loads to be honest, as well as Alcester itself. It depends what’s she’s after. Hope it goes well x
