Latin
The research also suggests that schools are put off Latin because the GCSE is among the hardest – research by Durham University suggests it is two grades harder than the average GCSE subject. Full text is here:

Latin
You can still translate into Latin on the GCSE paper if you want but you are given the choice between a hard translation into English or translating English into Latin.

4.9 AWARDING OF GRADES
The written papers will have a total weighting of 80-100% and internal assessment a weighting of 20%.
A candidate’s mark for each of the components taken will be combined in the appropriate weighting to give the candidate’s total mark for the specification. The candidate’s grade will be determined by this total mark. Candidates achieving less than the minimum mark for grade G will be ungraded.
Candidates on the Higher Tier who fail to achieve the minimum mark for the award of a grade D will normally be ungraded.
It does not say anything about needing to pass each paper ...
