Gifted and Talented????

It is not a nonsense.
It is about each school identifying their most able pupils and stretching them - in stretching the most able, all pupils are challenged.
Did you look at the resources for IQS and CQS Flamenco?

It's about encouraging higher order thinking skills not just giving these pupils 'more of the same'.

Schools and teachers worth their salt should already have been doing this in the first place without Big Brother barging in with publications and guidelines to complicate matters and cause further confusion.Guest55 wrote:It is not a nonsense.

Why just stretch only the "top" 10%?
What about the "bottom" 90% which in many cases (good schools) can put the top 1% in other schools in the shade.
My dd was on the G&T list at primary , but nothing was really done about it.
She is now at a grammar. At the start of Yr 8, we heard she was on their G&T register. At her school each subject nominates pupils in the top 5-10%. The 3 children in each form with the most nominations in different subjects go onto the register and are enrolled on the NAGTY website.
She has been invited to a couple of G&T events held in the school and has been given the opportunity to take part in activities in the specific areas she has been identified as G&T in. The G&T co-ordinator has also said the school will help to fund her in any G&T activities she would like to take part in.

Gifted and talented????
The dead hand of the quasi socialist government YET AGAIN!
When this nonsense was first mooted it was run by warwick university albeit with a hefty lump of taxpayers dosh. It was called NAGTY (National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth) and did actually involve a number of worthwhile summer camps and courses. It took place at venues including Plas Y Brenin and various proper universities and you needed something like a Gold in the maths challenge or to have passed an NFER 11+ with a decent mark to be able to join. In other words it was genuine and not subject to the vagaries of political correctness.
Then, one fine day, someone in the socialist hierarchy (if that's not an oxymoron!) realised that NAGTY seemed to be comprised of bright and talented children (now there's a surprise!) and did not include clueless delinquents from sink schools!
In the best socialist tradition the rules were immediately changed and the whole thing went haywire bigtime!!
It was renamed, the worthwhile courses were scrapped for being elitist and the lunatics were put firmly in charge of the asylum!!!!
Both my dds belonged to it but only the one who joined in the halcyon NAGTY days ever got anything out of it I'm afraid.
Guest 55- You are obviously not remembering it as it was. You cannot keep telling everyone that all is pink and fluffy and that everyone is equal really because they are not and it is really annoying that NAGTY was sacrificed on the altar of political correctness

Yet again you reveal your true colours - there are bright children at sink schools too!! In fact some of the brightest children I've taught were at a comprehensive ....
Yes, I do remember NAGTY - one-off events are not really valuable - ALL children need excellent teaching every day.
