Thanks, it's been reassuring to read your posts and I will give it a go, particularly as DD has a mate with a Mum who's of the same mind on route - she can go with her DC.

It's odd letting go - it has to be done, but for a control freak like me it's a toughy. Now all I need to do is start letting DD dress as want, and not mind the eyes to heaven and huffing whenever I say something :wink:

I dont blame you for being worried.
When my dc started walking to school I walked with her most of the way and then gradually allowed her to walk further and further on her own. By the last term she was doing the whole journey on her own.
( erm and the school is only half a mile away!)

I know people who live in areas with lower/middle/upper schools. Middle schools started at year 5. Most children walk by themselves then. Infact, I think the children consider it uncool to have a parent with them.
