I would love someone to post abbreviations of the various schools. I am new to this forum and completely bewildered about which school people are talking about when they abreviate the name. Though ofcourse its one way of avoiding being sued if you have something not very flattering to say about the school.

MGS = Maidstone Grammer School
MGGS = Maidstone Girls Grammer School

A very good suggestion, Bromley Mum. It can be very confusing for "beginners" to have to wade through the abbreviations. I will include a list of the Bucks Schools abbreviations in the final list.

Essex and Southend area grammar schools

KEGS King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford
CCHS Chelmsford County High School or Colchester County High School (very confusingly)
CRGS Colchester Royal Grammar School
WHSB Westcliff High School for Boys
WHSG Westcliff High School for Girls
SHSB Southend High School for Boys
SHSG Southend High School for Girls
STM St Thomas More (semi-selective)

Gloucestershire:

Pate's, mixed, Cheltenham

in Gloucester
STRS / Tommy's = Sir Thomas Rich (boys only - girls in 6th form), in brother" to Denmark Rd)
Denmark Rd, or DRd = High School for Girls, (girls, with boys in 6th form)
The Crypt (boys only)
Ribston (girls only)

and in Stroud
Stroud High - girls
Marling - boys

Just to correct the above,

TOGS (also TGS) Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls. (Not to be confused with Tonbridge School which is an Independent boys school)

TWGGS (also called TWIGS) - Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School
TWGBS - Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys.

Buckinghamshire (Aylesbury Vale)

AGS = Aylesbury Grammar School (Boys)
AHS = Aylesbury High School (Girls Grammar)
SHFGS = Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School (mixed)
