School songs
herman's reply to a another thread inspired me..
did youhave a school song??
I'll start
Long go a man of vision
filled with courage , full of grace
planned to build a nobler country,
planned to build a finer race
Here within the Severn valley ,
, bright with gardens , rich in streams
Guarded by the cotswold ramparts, stands the temple of his dreams
may we prove the race he hoped for
fullof courage , true and just (??)
may we prove in life and action
not unworthy of his trust
looking back I find this faintly disturbing!!
If any Pates girls can fill in the gaps I would be grateful!

A great number of years on I can still remember my school song off by heart.
O heros invincibilis, Dux Michael!!
Adesto nostris praeliis, ora pro nobis.
Pugna pro nobis, pugna pro nobis,
Dux Michael
Luckily I found this on good ol' wikipedia as I would have been too embarressed to post my spelling. Was rubbish at Latin then let alone (ahem) years on!

Mine started with:
Unto thee oh Lord do we give thanks! (Which we had to sing as if it sounded like thAHnks.
...and went onto to make mention of a 'goodly heritage', 'going forth in the strength of the Lord God' 'and will make mention of his righteousness Holy...'
It was very high and each word had so many notes attached to it that we warbled along as only girls can!

OOOOH amber, I thnk we may have gone to the same school (except this was sung in my junior school)Amber wrote:Ours was:
No more days in school,
No more days in sorrow,
No more days in this old dump
And we'll be home tomorrow.
Sung at the end of term, half term, even Friday afternoons when things got really bad. The type of comprehensive I went to was not in the market for the real thing.

Rest at last! We’ve worked enough!
Now we’d like to calm down,
And the tribe of books so tough
Longs to lay its arms down.
Now bags and boxes ready stand,
In praising our forefather’s way,
Our journey money’s in our hand.
We’re proud to be as good as they.
Our School is glad to see us go,
For ours the honour, ours the gain
Our homes are glad we’re coming, so
Which their great deeds have set in train.
In friendship unending
So sportful and thoughtful,
Exclaim it, proclaim it:
By care and by prayer…
FLOREAT RUGBEIA!
On the Close see how the grass,
Worn from all our striving,
Needs but two quick months to pass
Till we see it thriving.
We, like it, in heart and mind
Worn, will soon revival find.
Relieved from stress, refreshed from strain,
In pride of health and strength again,
We’ll loudly and proudly
Exclaim it, proclaim it:
FLOREAT RUGBEIA!
Long live Rugby, to demand
Success in great and small things.
There’s no other can command
Excellence in all things.
May she ever give our nation
Patriots in every station:
Her statesmen all distinguished be,
Her generals crowned with victory.
With measureless treasure
Renowned and crowned,
FLOREAT RUGBEIA!
But if fate demands we make
Such a great endeavour,
May we be allowed to take
Temporary leisure?
Bishops we are not, as yet,
Nor members of the cabinet,
Then let us, brothers, shout Hurray,
And idle be while still we may.
So loudly and proudly
Exclaim it, proclai

To the tune of Frère Jacques
SchoOOoool dinners schoOOoool dinners
Concrete chips, concrete chips
soggy semolina, soggy semolina
I feel sick,
Toilet quick.
It's too late,
I've thrown up on my plate
