Have you tried John Lewis? I had the same problem with my son but that was a few years ago. They used to have an amazing selection and were not too expensive. Good luck!

Lots of Dry Cleaners do alterations which are usually quite reasonable.

I've just spent 20 mins on the phone with an on-line uniform shop. They spent ages whilst I was on the phone looking at all the brochures form their suppliers, sadly they couldn't find a solution.

I stopped Ds wearing shorts for school in Y3 as tall and lanky boys in short, shorts belongs in a Just William book, and because his legs our like matchsticks he has always been very self aware of his body. Doesn't like PE, but football's OK as his legs are covered up football socks pulled up very high.

As he's going into Y7 shorts aren't an option, also not very confident about getting trousers professionally altered as couple of years ago I had to have a evening dress taken it ( put the weight back on now !) and it was a disaster. I had to buy another dress on the day of the event.

I'll see what John Lewis say, but otherwise it's a case of sticking to adjustable waist trousers

Have you tried Stevensons in St Albans?
They supply DS's school uniform and he is like your DS - tall and skinny! The only down side is that they are more expensive than m&S etc.
The last pair I got were perfect on the waist but very long so I had them taken up in our local dry cleaners.

Thanks Zorro, I tried Stevensons in St Albans before I started this thread and they can't help unless his waist is 25inch, which seems massive. I'm being generous saying DS waist in 22inch, but when I measured his current trousers which are part elasticated and pulled in to the tightest on the adjustable waist they only measured 20inch. Don't think there's any way getting such a tiny waist with a long leg length or even normal for a 11yrold

Oh well, think you will have to stick to elasticated waists or belts! DS wears his trousers very low these days  (as is the trend amongst teenagers I'm afraid!!), so this makes the waist lower and therefore bigger, unfortunately it also makes the hems drag on the floor.  You have to have the boxers shorts logo showing above your trousers apparently!!(And we are not talking M&S either!) OMG and he's only 13!!!

There is a store in Australia which might be worth contacting to see is they'll ship over.

The website is called daddylonglegs and it specialises in exactly your son's shape.

My DS goes to secondary in September and is in age 7-8 trousers!!!!!
SNAP! Glad my son is not alone...........

Regards to waist sizes, I have dealt with this many times before through a local dressmaker who took the waistband in at the side seams. Another option could be to sew corset hooks and eyes (they are stronger) wherever on the waistband you need them (something else I have had to do plenty of times due to my own fluctuating weight issues ) none of this should be too noticable once you have added a school jumper, blazer etc.

Just noticed the bit about the boxers showing over the top of the waistband, (very tendy) so maybe not!

This year I'm constantly seem to be repairing the hems of DS's school trousers as he started to wear them low, problem is his hips are as small as his waist, so if he's not careful they'll fall down.. DS is happy to show his boxer shorts. he's already into his labels, still age 10( t-shirts and footwear) , but hasn't yet realized there's boxer labels he should be wearing.
