I have taken the risk and told him that if he is miserable then he can come home. I just hope he doesn't pretend he is unhappy!
Don't worry - You've definitely done the right thing - he is just a kid after all - nothing wrong in reassuring him. You couldn't send him off for 3 months with him fretting that he couldn't return home to your bosom if he was miserable.

I cried, but he didn't see me and he didn't cry! He was a little nervous but then we discovered that a whole Y7 girls school was going and he lit up. I'm still worried about him but I'm sure he'll be fine. Thank you all for the great support you've been. :D

A whole Year 7 girls? You SHOULD be worried now

Awww, I'm glad he got away happily enough.

Well done you, it's hard I know

Now, what have you got planned for DS2 whilst you have all this time to yourselves?

How is the trip going, for you and for him?

I'm remarkably fine!

He emails most days but he says he is quite bored but is beginning to understand some French. They have discouraged calls so I haven't heard his wee voice in weeks and I am dreading the effect it will have on him when we go over. The next spell without seeing us is four whole weeks, made worse by a compulsory ski trip which he hates!

Surprisingly they put him in the top French set so he is not pleased about that as he wanted to go into the bottom set. So the general feeling at the moment is that it's boring and freezing!

Oh that's really good. You never know, you (and he) might get to like it!
