Junior Doctors-Anyone watching?

Post by Clare »

I was very surprised by the level of binge drinking.

One guy drinking 60 pints of beer a week, another had made himself unconcious.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I've been watching.

A great programme for showing life and their training as new doctors, we can't get enough of it.

As for the patients, (the ones you're referring to) I think it's very brave of them to allow themselves to be filmed for this programme. Having done so, it helps us to understand their lives and how hard it is for them - no-one sets out to become addicted to anything and it's something so easily and unknowingly done. I wish them all well.

The last time I was lamenting the lack of real opportunites for arts graduates like my daughter compared to her best friend who is near to qualifying as a doctor, my daughter's comment was: 'Well, I may be working in a call centre but at least my liver is still in tact!'

Apparently hard drinking is fairly common among the medics, but then they are also phenomenonly hard-working.

I have tried to watch it as my sister, a VERY mature student, is unleashed onto the wards this August! Although she should be okay as she was a ward sister for years; so she is desperate to get started.
But they don't call August the 'killing season' for no reason...

Yes, my DD and I have been following this programme closely and are loving it!

DD (yr 9)is now seriously thinking of becoming a Doctor!!! This is a complete change of plan for her, seeing as last month she wanted to be a dancer!! Ah well, at least that means she may now knuckle down to some serious studying sometime soon! :? Also food for thought with option choices upon her!

Agree fm, They all seem to be phenomenonly hard working!

Your daughter must have a strong stomach East Lancs mum.

I seem to have bred squeamish children.

Asked my eleven year old if he would like to watch and he said it was too nerve racking!

On a serious note , I think it is great if they have an idea what they want to do as it makes them more focused.

Agreed Snowdrops the patients are very brave to allow themseves to be filmed.

What I gleaned from this weeks episode is they have to make a choice quite early on betweeen medicine and surgery.

If I have to go in to hospital I want Lucy looking after me.She seems very dedicated and sensitive.
