Shocking!

My year 8 DS came home from school today
telling me a boy from his class has sent a picture
(on his phone)
of his ... Hm...you know.. to another boy's girlfriend.
She was non too pleased nor was her boyfriend,
all year 8's.

This is a serious matter but what can I do?

The girl goes to a different school to the boys.

I really feel I should tell someone or am I overreacting?

No you are not over reacting unless we are talking about his nose!
Contact the head of year of his school and ask that your comments be investigated without you or your son being drawn in.It really is not acceptable. They will tell the other school.
There again, on this forum, I feel sometimes I am a little old fashioned but...really if they were adults what would we say? Not acceptable and they need to learn. I have all girls - one in year 8 - I don't have words for what I would feel if she received the picture!
Take courage - your gut instinct is right - don't tell your son either and then he won't have to tell any lies.(tell the school he doesn't know too)
Good luck :)

Tell the school. The situation is then for them to deal with (or not) and you can set your mind at rest. Since it is all 'hearsay' (although I have no doubt your son is telling the truth) there is little else you can do. -Congratulations though on having a son sensible enough to confide in his mum.

It is a very serious matter and anyone who forwards that image on is guilty of a child s.e.x offence. (Just completed an internet safety training course - full of scary information.)

Sadly it happens a lot (apparently.)

My daughter is going to church camp soon and we have all received letters telling us that children are not allowed to have mobile phones with camera functions when inside the tents or the bathrooms. These children are aged 9-12.

This is illegal - even though he took the photo and forwarded it himself, it still counts as a child p o r n o graphy offence.

I agree with all the above advice.

If you know the girl/boy-friend's parents, it may be worth informing them of what your son has told you, although I appreciate this could be difficult.
