Re: Rugby boots and football boots...
We will have to agree to differ here and I would suggest that the OP contacts the PE department of the school.
DS's play a lot of rugby but they use rugby studs. All I know from experience is that they have been stopped from playing football in rugby studs. It has never arisen the other way as they change studs.

Re: Rugby boots and football boots...
It used to be that it was compulsory to have Kite marked IRB approved studs for rugby. The reason being is that football studs sharpen in a way that makes them dangerous and has resulted in serious lacerations requiring micro surgery. Several rugby clubs in the UK will not allow football studs or blades to be used on the rugby pitch. Even "safety" football studs have caused nasty gashes.
Typically all boots should have their studs checked prior to a game or training as the aluminium kite marked studs for rugby wear down and can eventually produce sharpish edges - but nowhere near as nasty as those with football studs, but sadly not all referees or games teachers check the studs - and the players seemingly never check them - given the number of players who suddenly discover a - has fallen out!
OOOO - it appears that the singular form of studs is being blanked out!

Re: Rugby boots and football boots...
I have seen several children gashed with the football studs which had been left on when playing rugby.
Rugby studs cannot damage another person as they are a different shape.
As you say, studs should be checked, but most of the time they are not.

Until I saw this thread I was unaware of any difference, possibly because neither of my sons is the tiniest bit interested in either of these sports. I have just asked DS1 if the school checks and been given the kind of look teenage boys specialise in when their mother has asked them something beyond contempt. So it seems there is at least one school in Gloucestershire where such things are not checked either.

Unless you have misinterpreted his withering look?
Re: Rugby boots and football boots...
No. I specialise in interpreting the nuances of withering looks from teenagers of either gender. And it was followed by a brief explanation, again of the sort reserved for ignorant parents. It would have just spoiled my story if I had written all that. See?mystery wrote:Unless you have misinterpreted his withering look?
