definitive list of selective state schools

Post by confused parent »

Is there a complete, definitive list of selective state schools anywhere please? There seem to be schools listed as Grammar schools on this site that do not feature in the National Grammar schools list (eg 2 in Bristol). I think there are other selective state schools, eg Thomas Telford ( what happened to them? They seemed to be top of the A level charts a few years ago and now they have vanished!) - is there a complete ist of these schools anywhere?

Thomas Telford CTC has not disappeared as far as I know! It is a comprehensive, however, so unlikely to appear in any grammar school lists. They have a web site if you are interesred.

There is a fairly lengthy list on the home page here under "11 plus schools".

As well as fully selective school there are also of course "partially selective schools" and comprehensive schools like Thomas Telford who give places based (I think) on percentage bandings ....
There are also those who give some places based on musical ability etc.

And I am sure someone will point out that many comprehensives select on parental ability to buy a house in the right area or go to the right church

Depends what you call selection and where you want to draw the line...
