Please can a teacher explain

Post by mystery »

Please could you explain something relating to year 4 maths:

1. Are there any test papers a child has to be given at the end of the year or is it optional to make them sit down and do a written test?

2. If it is compulsory, are there differents tests for different NC levels .... if there are please could you explain this a bit more?

2. What DfE document sets out the way a year 4 child should be teacher assessed in maths?

3. If a school was choosing to use old test papers regularly, is there a choice of levels? How does this work please e.g. is there one paper on which you could get a 3a to 3c, another for 4a to 4c, another 5a to 5c etc? Or is it 3 to 5 all on one paper?

Thanks

it's not compulsory, but many schools do the QCA tests ( often called optional or "mini sats" ) it;s the same paper every year

The one paper covers a range of levels ( as in the Y6 level 3- 5 paper) the number of correct answers gives teh overall level.

Best to find out what assessment the school uses, many schools use APP ( assessing pupil progress) , assessment will be ongoing throughout the year

There's a choice of papers: level 2 to 3 and level 3 to 4.

Pupils should have progressed one level from KS1 by the end of Year 4.

Ok - she did a test paper at the end of year 3 on which she came out as a 4c. What paper was that likely to have been? And what therefore would she be likely to sit at the end of year 4?
Are the papers you are talking about Guest 55 the same as the ones that Yoyo is talking about?

Thanks

Yes - optional SATs - she'll take the level 3 to 4 paper.

Ok, so the level 3 to 4 paper is what she would have done last year too to get a 4c or have they given this grade on the basis of a level 2 to 3 paper? How can you get a level 5 at the end of year 4 with a level 3 to 4 paper?
