DS (13) has had a high-sleeper for a quite a few years. I think he's definitely outgrown it now he's in secondary school. We have high ceilings but like others have said, it gets very hot up there. We had to change the original mattress as this was too thin/soft, but with a decent mattress it's much more difficult to make the bed. He has the desk option which, despite my efforts, he maintains as a tip (well, the whole room is a tip!). I think we'll probably be looking for an alternative in the near future.

Thank you very much everyone. We've been thinking long and hard, and decided to drop this idea and get a normal single bed with good storage instead, of solid wood. DS is likely to be growing quite tall (fast!) and I take the point about it being hot up there. I definitely don't fancy the palaver of changing sheets up there, and I love sitting with DS on bed reading etc - will miss it!

thank you again
