We are in the south and don't know yet if there will be a strike on the 17th.

DD is off on the 1st anyway as it's admissions testing day.

Our comp is closing on Tuesday, just had an email.

There will be lots of unhappy parents; although I suppose older pupils aren't so dependent on child care in the way primary school children are.

I don't know exactly why they are striking. ?

Pay– no to dismantling the national pay system
Conditions– no to attacks on conditions – Michael Gove wants a longer school day and year
Pensions– no to working longer, paying more and getting less

Secondaries are just taking Y11, 12 and 13 - some lessons will be private study. Various classes in all the local primaries are closed.

No teacher wants to inconvenience parents, but schools are not childminders, which is what they become when quality teachers are not available. Protecting education is at the heart of the dispute to ensure that excellent teachers stay within the teaching profession, that standards are maintained and that the working conditions for teachers are fair and reasonable.

I don't want my children to go to school for longer than they already do. Where does he get that idea from?

You'd be surprised at how many do actually see school as simply a childminding service ... or maybe not.
