Piccolo?

Post by moved »

So we have the flute and have stopped reeling! :D
She is grade 7/8 and now would like a piccolo - given the volume it will need to keep tune well and we would like to stick to a small budget.
We will probably go to the shop where we bought her flute but any recommendations would be fab as if we could buy one from eBay.
Thanks

Can't help with recommendations I'm afraid, but my cousin who plays both flute and piccolo prefers the piccolo as "it's the only instrument you can hear in the orchestra!"

I'm investing in ear plugs for her when she practices and strangely enough for the rest of us too.

moved - it could have been the violin or something enormous like the harp or double bass. :D

I'd go to the shop to see what she prefers and ask her music teacher what s/he would recommend.

I played the piccolo in various orchestras/ensembles years ago and absolutely loved it - hope your daughter does too. Just have to listen carefully for tuning as yes you will always be heard above everyone else! And it is possible to practise quietly; a good piccolo can have a very sweet tone. My knowledge is a bit out of date but I had a Yamaha. I'd speak to a specialist woodwind shop like Just Flutes in Croydon, or one nearer wherever you live.
