Most counties have no grammar schools as the majority of grammars became comprehensives in the 1970s/1980s. There are, relatively speaking, very few grammar schools across the country, hence the mad dash for places.suniljagnani wrote:Just wondering why there are no Grammar Schools in Oxford?
Don't expect Oxford's schools to have the same reputation as its university. They are not related.

As of January 2012, there were 3268 state-funded secondary schools in England; 164 of them (a fraction over 5%) were grammar schools, so Oxford is far from unusual.
