Mensa do tests for children over the age of 10.5 and for adults. They will have a list of venues (around the country) and dates on their website if you want the full battery of supervised tests.
Alternatively, you can ask them to send you a short "practice" test to do at home. If you want it marked, however, it will cost about the same as the "official" supervised tests. I think the full tests cost about 15 pounds and they were/are running a "two for the price of one" offer. So it will be half that if you can get someone to share. Much cheaper than a private assessment!
They used to be a referring body for NAGTY ( so they would nominate your child if you wanted and if they did well enough) but I'm not sure what the situation is now.
