The Salisbury response has probably run its course. The British have embarrassed Putin and they will (to some extent) be content with that. Politically there was nothing to gain from letting Russia off lightly.

Saudi Arabia is a different ball game. The West relies on their oil, military contracts and 'help' with Iran. The Americans would probably have preferred this incident to be swept under the carpet. Of course Erdogan has his own agenda and is pushing for a response from America. I suspect the reprisals will fall short of those at the top but will be enough to allow the Americans to conclude that 'justice' has been done. The British (and the rest of the West) will follow suit. A regime change in Saudi Arabia is not in their interests.
