I was so saddened to hear the news of his passing this morning. What a remarkable man with a great sense of humour. He discovered some of the mysteries of the universe yet he couldn't fathom that other great mystery, women !

He was one of my heroes and who I regarded as one of the greatest scientists in the history of cosmology since Albert Einstein.Remarkably most of his achievements were all done while battling adversity.I still picture him at the Olympics what a titan he was and is.

"Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist.Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.It matters that you don't just give up"

I was greatly saddened by this too however I gather that he has not been able to communicate effectively of late and that must have been **** on earth for him.

Oh dear yes. I was very sad when I read this. He'll be happier not see Brexit happen for real.

I think it's fair to say that many people will have been sad to hear this, anyone with even an ounce of interest in science will know about him, but he went further than that, and people with no real scinentific interest knew of him.. he was that important to our society.
Rest in Happiness.

What struck me was how much everyone talked about him being really funny. Given his challenges in communication it is fantastic that he managed to shine in that way

Sadly I had been wondering why he, Stephen Hawking had not won a nobel laureate like Albert Einstein who was made to wait for his.It seems because SH's theories on black holes have not yet been proven.Sadly he joins an illustrious list of those who were never honoured and doesn't need a nobel to inspire us with his genius.

Here is a link to a documentary on Stephen Hawkins life in his own words.I have had it recorded in my sky planner since being broadcast in 2013.You will have to register with channel 4 to watch it.I hope others find it fascinating as I did.Its likely channel 4 will rebroadcast it now.

Thank you to perpetual student in correcting me that Stephen's name is spelt with ph and not with v in some of my comments.

How befitting next to Sir Issac Newton and in the same place as Charles Darwin.

The Simpsons pay their own tribute.
